MONTREAL — Canadian National Railway and Canadian labor union Unifor have reached a tentative agreement on a new four-year contract, the railroad has announced.
CN said no details will be released publicly until the agreement is ratified.
The union represents about 3,300 mechanical, clerical, and intermodal employees, CN said; Unifor recently placed the number about about 5,400. The railroad and union began negotiations in September, with Unifor quickly requesting government conciliation, saying the railroad sought significant contract concessions and had issued a layoff notice for about 65 workers. Last month, Unifor members voted to authorize a strike against CN if a new agreement was not reached by Jan. 1.
