MONTREAL — Canadian National and United Steelworkers Local 2004, which represents CN track and bridge employees in Canada, have reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract, the railroad announced today (Friday, March 1)
The union represents more than 2,500 workers, primarily responsible for track maintenance. Negotiations had been underway since October 2023; the most recent contract expired on Dec. 31, 2023.
“Our members do important work in ensuring the continued viability of our national railways,” USW Local 2004 President Cole Kramer said in a statement, “and I am pleased that we were able to reach an agreement that fairly compensates them for their efforts.”
Ratification meetings will be scheduled this month, the union said, with results expected by the end of March or early April. Details of the new agreement will not be released until it is ratified, CN said.
