CALGARY — Canadian Pacific and Canadian union Unifor have reached agreement on a new contract for approximately 1,200 mechanical employees, the two parties announced today (Friday, Jan. 13). The previous agreement had expired on Dec. 31, 2022.
Terms of the agreement were not announced. Both parties said details would be released following ratification.
The workers, represented by Unifor Local 101R at 18 locations across Canada, provide maintenance service and safety inspections for locomotives and freight cars, and produce components for rolling stock and track.
“These negotiations encountered several difficult periods and the Bargaining Committee worked very hard to achieve a tentative [agreement] to bring back to the membership,” Rick Raso, President of Unifor Local 101R, said in a press release.
“We thank Unifor for working collaboratively with us throughout this process,” CP CEO Keith Creel said in the railroad’s press release. “CP is proud to have reached another tentative collective agreement with a valued union partner. This tentative agreement is a testament to the hard work, collaboration and commitment of both sides.”
