CALGARY — Canadian Pacific Kansas City has reached a tentative four-year agreement with United Steelworkers, which represents approximately clerical and intermodal employees in Canada.
“We are very pleased to have reached another collective agreement at the bargaining table, our third tentative agreement this year in Canada,” CPKC CEO Keith Creel said in a press release. “Working together with the United Steelworkers, we’ve come to a tentative agreement that is good for our railroaders and their families. With this and other recent agreements, we can continue our work safely and efficiently serving our customers, enabling growth and prosperity in the Canadian economy.”
The railroad said details on the agreement will not be announced until it is ratified.
In late January, CPKC reached tentative agreements with unions representing Canadian mechanics [see “CPKC and Unifor reach …,” Trains News Wire, Jan. 27, 2025] and maintenance-of-way workers [see “CPKC and Teamsters Canada …,” News Wire, Jan. 28, 2025].
Good question. I used to work for a healthcare system, and at one of its hospitals, the nurses were organized by the USW.
What steel is involved in clerical and intermodal work?
(I used the wrong “reply” level to reply to your question.)
Maybe there are no more “steelworkers” in Canada to represent by the United Steel Workers (USW) union and so their union had to branch out into other fields to survive (?) (Pardon my Friday afternoon sarcasm !!)
