JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CSX on Tuesday evening (March 25) announced it had reached a tentative five-year labor agreement with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, its second such deal of the day.
The union — formally the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers & Helpers — represents 59 CSX employees.
“The agreement with IBB reinforces CSX’s ongoing commitment to valuing and empowering employees,” CSX CEO Joe Hinrichs said in a press release. “It reaffirms our team’s shared promise to prioritize safety, respect, and excellence as ONE CSX as we work collaboratively to better serve our customers.”
Earlier on Tuesday, the railroad announced a tentative agreement with the Brotherhood of Railway Signalmen [see “CSX, signalmen reach …,” Trains News Wire, March 25, 2025]. Both agreements are subject to ratification.
CSX has previously reached ratified agreements with 11 labor unions accounting for 47% of its workforce.
Other unions represent most employees that could be called boilermakers…these are the people that test fuel tanks and air tanks…and remove and install same…
CSX has boilers? On Anything?
Likewise… 59 employees systemwide? What gives?
