CSX coal train derails in Virginia (updated)

CSX logoBREMO BLUFF, Va. — No injuries have been reported after a derailment involving a CSX coal train early today (Jan. 7, 2025), the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The sheriff’s office said in a press release that “multiple cars” have overturned in the incident reported at approximately 4:53 a.m. Also responding were the Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Department’s Palmyra and Fork Union fire companies, and Fluvanna County Emergency Services.

CSX said in a customer advisory that the derailment occurred at a private crossing and that 25 cars were involved.Trains were being rerouted while cleanup and repairs were in progress.

The derailment site is on CSX’s Rivanna Subdivision, approximately 66 miles west of Richmond, Va.
