CSX coal train derails in Virginia

CSX logoBREMO BLUFF, Va. — No injuries have been reported after a derailment involving a CSX coal train early today (Jan. 7, 2025), the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The sheriff’s office said in a press release that “multiple cars” have overturned in the incident reported at approximately 4:53 a.m. Also responding were the Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Department’s Palmyra and Fork Union fire companies, and Fluvanna County Emergency Services.

The cause of the derailment has not been identified. CSX representatives are on scene to determine cleanup and recovery plans.

The derailment site is on CSX’s Rivanna Subdivision, approximately 66 miles west of Richmond, Va.
