CSX logoJACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CSX Transportation announced today (Friday, Feb. 10) that it has reached agreement with two more unions to provide four days of paid sick leave.

The agreements are with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, and the National Conference of Firemen and Oilers, which represent the company’s utility workers. They follow announcements earlier this week of similar agreements with the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes and Brotherhood of Railway Carmen [see “CSX, two unions reach agreement …,” Trains News Wire,” Feb. 7, 2023].

“CSX is very much committed to the wellbeing of all of our employees and their families,” CEO Joe Hinrichs said in a press release. “We have a great respect for the work they do in service to our customers and the nation, and we will continue to partner with them and their representatives to ensure they have the best possible employment experience with our railroad. We appreciate the collaboration with IAM and NCFO, and are proud of the momentum we are building with our union partners to find solutions by working together.”

The agreement with IAM District 19 covers approximate 700 workers, the machinists union said in a statement.

“This is going to make a huge difference in the lives of IAM District 19 Mechanical Employees at CSX,” said IAM District 19 Assistant Directing General Chair Andrew Sandberg. “Our members will be able to rest easier at night knowing their union has won this for themselves and their families.”

IAM International President Robert Martinez Jr. said the union will “continue to wage this battle across the industry to win this critical benefit for all freight rail workers.”
