INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has had to cancel more excursion trains because of riverbank erosion along its route.
All trains but the Cleveland Dinner and Event Train, which will operate on an abbreviated route, have been cancelled through Nov. 6. The dinner train will continue to run on Fridays through Oct. 28. More information is available at the railroad’s website.
The railroad’s holiday train, the North Pole Adventure, is currently still scheduled to begin operation Nov. 11.
The tourist railroad announced on Oct. 14 that it was cancelling a number of trains because of erosion along its right-of-way [see “Riverbank erosion forces cancellation …,” Trains News Wire, Oct. 14, 2022].
The new erosion issues came just over two weeks after Cuyahoga Valley National Park announced it had received a $14 million grant for work including efforts to stabilize the riverbank along the railroad [see “Park project will help preserve right-of-way …,” News Wire, Sept. 28, 2022]. The railroad had to cancel some trains and alter others from March into July this year because of earlier erosion issues [see “Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad to resume normal operations,” News Wire, July 13, 2022].
So it makes more sense to cancel instead of truncate…unless the erosion is right outside the departing station I see no need to cancel, just alter the length of runs.
