DALLAS — Dallas Area Rapid Transit restored light rail service in Dallas’ central business district at midday today (July 24), beating an estimate calling for service to resume this evening.
DART resumed rail service at 1 p.m., continuing the shuttle bus service that had been in place to serve six stations until 2 p.m. while operations were restored. Those stations had been without power since a Sunday, July 21, accident involving a Dallas Fire and Rescue truck that skidded off an elevated section of highway and onto light rail tracks below, taking down part of the catenary system [see “Dallas light rail service disrupted,” Trains News Wire, July 21, 2024].
“Our team here at DART extends our most sincere gratitude to our passengers for their patience during this time,” said Bernard Jackson, senior vice president and chief operations officer, in announcing the restoration of operations. “While the accident was unexpected and quite severe in its impact, I am proud of the quick work across multiple teams to establish service to help our passengers reach their destinations.”
— Updated at 8:15 p.m. CT with resumption of light rail service.
