Amtrak adds digital payment options
Amtrak is adding new digital payment options on Amtrak.com and the Amtrak smartphone apps, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal. Each can be used for tickets and other purchases, and can be saved on customer profiles as a preferred payment option. “We know every minute counts for our customers and now purchasing tickets is as simple as the touch of a button,” Roger Harris, Amtrak executive vice president, chief marketing and revenue officer, said in a press release. “These updates to the Amtrak app and website will offer customers enhanced flexibility and convenience as they book and pay for train tickets.”
CN, CSX makes ‘A List’ of environmental non-profit CDP
Canadian National and CSX Transportation have received “A List” ratings for leadership in corporate sustainability by global environmental non-profit CDP. They are among 270 companies to make the organization’s climate change A List, out of more than 5,800 scored. CDP’s environmental disclosure and scoring process involves more than 515 investors with over $106 trillion in assets, and more than 150 major purchasers who spend over $4 trillion in procurement, requesting company data on environmental impacts and activities. “We are proud to be recognized by the CDP for the eleventh straight year,” Canadian National CEO JJ Ruest said in a press release. “Our goal is to conduct our operations with minimal environmental impact while providing cleaner, more sustainable transportation services to our customers.” Nathan Goldman, CSX executive vice president and chief legal officer, said in a press release, “CSX is proud to be recognized by CDP for our sustainable business practices. In addition to contributing to greenhouse gas reductions and addressing climate change, CSX’s commitment to advance environmental sustainability supports our company’s business strategy.”
R.J. Corman completes purchase of short lines in New York, Pennsylvania
R.J. Corman Railroad Co. has completed its acquisition of three short lines — the Owego & Harford Railway, Lehigh Railway, and Luzerne & Susquehanna Railway — bringing to 17 the company’s total number of short lines. The purchases, effective Nov. 30, involve railroads in New York and Pennsylvania that move about 14,000 railcars annually. The deal, which also includes acquisition of sand transload company TranZ, was announced in August [see “Digest: SEPTA warns of major service cuts …,” Trains News Wire, Aug. 19, 2020].
