California’s Capitol Corridor Amtrak service will increase as of Monday, June 7, with San Jose-Sacramento service going from 16 to 22 trips daily, while Oakland-San Jose service will return to the pre-pandemic level of 14 trips daily. Also, the Richmond Standard reports, Café Car service will be restored with a limited menu. “The last time the Capitol Corridor increased train service was in June of 2020 when it restored some frequency that had been cut in March 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the agency which oversees corridor operations said in a press release. “The schedule was updated again in March of 2021 to improve on–time performance and better meet travel patterns; however, that schedule maintained the June 2020 frequency of service.”

Alstom to build 60 light rail vehicles for Toronto

Alstom will build 60 low-floor Flexity light rail vehicles for the Toronto Transit Commission streetcar system, the manufacturer announced Wednesday. The new order, valued at more than C$404 million, is in addition to 204 of the five-section, one-direction vehicles already built and delivered. “Over the years, our innovative, reliable, Made-in-Canada rail products have established themselves as a signature element of Toronto’s iconic cityscape and contribute daily to the sustainable economic and social development of our Canadian cities,” Jérôme Wallut, president, Alstom Americas, said in a press release.

Officials see little damage from hacker breach of MTA computers

The computer systems of New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority were penetrated by hackers in April, the New York Times reports. The agency says the hackers, believed to have links to the Chinese government, did little damage and their intrusion did not threaten rider safety. Examination also found no indications that customer information had been compromised or that the hackers continued to have access to the systems. It is the third and largest such attack on MTA systems, officials said. The Department of Homeland Security is investigating the breach.
