CN sets Canadian grain record for seventh straight month
Canadian National moved a record amount of Canadian grain for the seventh straight month, transporting 2.43 million metric tons of grain in September. The railroad moved 7.76 million metric tons in the third quarter of 2020. As is the case with a similar run of records by Canadian Pacific [see “Digest, CP sets Canadian grain records for third quarter, September,” Oct. 2, 2020], new higher capacity grain cars have played a major role in the records. The collaboration at all levels, from Prairie grain farmers to British Columbia coastal terminal operators, has been exemplary,” CN CEO JJ Ruest said in a press release. “Grain demand is enabling the return to active employment of many of our people, and with the addition of 1,500 new locally-built, high capacity grain cars, the CN One Team looks forward to breaking more records.”
