Long Island sets schedule changes for Nov. 9 to accommodate trackwork, leaf season
The Long Island Railroad will make schedule changes as of Monday, Nov. 9, to accommodate track work, the Main Line Expansion Project, and slippery-rail issues that come with autum leaf falls. The Ronkonkoma Branch will see slight adjustments to morning rush-hour trains, while that branch, the Port Jefferson Branch, and Far Rockaway Branch will see some weekday off-peak and weekend changes. NJ Transit to increase weekend service at five stations
NJ Transit will add weekend station stops at five locations as of Sunday, Nov. 8. On the Raritan Valley Line, all regular weekend trains will now stop at Garwood; on the North Jersey Coast Line, Avenal will be served by two additional morning eastbounds and three more afternoon westbounds; on the Northeast Corridor, North Elizabeth will see one additional morning eastbound and two additional morning westbounds; and on the Pascack Valley Line, eight eastbound and nine westbound trains will stop at both Teterboro and Woodcliff Lake. Reading & Northern seeks STB help on connection in Pittston, Pa.
The Reading & Northern is asking the Surface Transportation Board to intervene after it and R.J. Corman Railroad Co. have been unable to reach agreement on a connection between the two companies at Pittston Junction in Pittston, Pa. At issue is a connection between the Luzerne & Susquehanna Railway — which is being acquired by R.J. Corman — at the Pittston Wye. Under a 1994 agreement, both railroads are allowed to use all three legs of the wye, which has been maintained and dispatched by the R&N, but the change of ownership terminates that agreement. In a letter to the board, the Reading & Northern’s attorney says negotiations have stalled, and asks the board that approval of R.J. Corman’s acquisition of the Luzerne & Susequenna include a condition requiring continued reciprocal use of the wye.
