Brownville port receives grant for grain project; rail improvements included
The Port of Brownsville, Texas, has received a $14.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration to upgrade its grain storage and loading facilities, the latest in a series of grants that will fund upgrades to port rail facilities. Brownsville’s project will include rail and road improvements as part of the expansion and upgrade of the 3-million-bushel grain elevator operated by WestPlains LLC. “This grant demonstrates the federal government’s confidence in the Port of Brownsville and its commitment to support all industries across the Rio Grande Valley,” Brownsville Navigation District Chairman John Reed said in a press release.
Metrolink launches rider loyalty program
Southern California commuter railroad Metrolink is launching a new loyalty program offering riders points as well as special offers from area businesses and attractions. The SoCal Explorer program rewards riders with points for each mile traveled, which they can redeem for free tickets; members also receive discounts from businesses that are program partners as part of Metrolink’s effort to support the recovery of the local economy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Grand Canyon Railway sets Polar Express operations
The Grand Canyon Railway will operate Polar Express excursions on select dates from Nov. 7 to Jan. 3, 2021, with departures from the Williams, Ariz., station at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The railroad has reduced its cancellation date to seven days before date of departure. In addition to its regular rides, the railroad is also offering the Ultimate Polar Express experience, which allows families or groups to charter private cars.
