Preservation group receives donation of 1917 N&W business car
The Norfolk & Western Business Car 300 Preservation Society has accepted the donation of Business Car No. 300, a 1917 Pullman-built car. In an announcement on the group’s Facebook page, Bryan Lalevee, president of the 501c3 non-profit organization, said, “After three years of negotiations, our dream is now a reality. This is a true barn find as it has been stored inside a warehouse since 1991.” After receiving needed maintenance, the car will be moved to Valparaiso, Ind., for additional work, then moved to Coldwater, Mich., where it will be operated with the Little River Railroad excursion operation. Indiana industrial park to get long-sought CSX connection
LaPorte County (Ind.) commissioners have approved a contract to connect the Kingsbury Industrial Park to the CSX Transportation rail line, ending an effort to gain a rail connection that has taken more than a decade. The Times of Northwest Indiana reports that JBC Rail will install 4,500 linear feet of track to connect existing tracks in the park to the CSX line, work that could be done by the end of the year. The project is being made possible in part by a $1 million grant from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. The 8,000-acre industrial park also aims to add a connection to Canadian National, which runs near the opposite side of the park; that will come when financing is secured.
New York & Lake Erie to resume excursions
After a lengthy shutdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the New York & Lake Erie Railroad will resume passenger excursions this Saturday, offering two trips celebrating the railroad’s 42nd anniversary. Fall foliage, Halloween, Harvest Fest, and Santa Express trains are also planned on select weekend dates the remainer of 2020.
