DURANGO, Colo. — Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad service to Silverton, Colo., remains suspended as a result of a rock slide last week, according to an update on the railroad’s website.

The heritage railroad had hoped to be able to restore service by midweek after a slide discovered on Saturday, June 22, covered the rail line near Needleton [see “Rock slide blocks Durango & Silverton route,” Trains News Wire, June 23, 2024]. But at least through today (Thursday, June 27), passengers continue to be rebooked automatically on a shorter round trip between Durango and Cascade Canyon. The railroad continues to contact passengers to inform them of the situation and; those who prefer to cancel the trip can do so by emailing reservations@durangotrain.com.
