MUNCIE, Ind. – Electro-Motive Diesel has secured two orders for its successful SD70ACe locomotive. Ferromex and Ferrosur, both part of the Transportation division of GrupoMexico, have ordered a combined 34 SD70ACe’s for delivery in the summer of 2015. Ferromex has ordered 19 locomotives which will bring the total number of SD70ACes on its roster to 116. Ferrosur, currently an all-General Electric railroad, will take delivery of 15 SD70ACes with special modifications to the cooling systems for extended operation in tunnels.

“The 97 SD70ACe locomotives we have received have achieved very high and consistent performance and fuel efficiency. The 34 new additions will be key to our plans for 2015 and beyond, where Ferromex will continue to grow at higher levels than the average of the North American railroad industry,” says Rogelio Vélez, CEO of Ferromex and Ferrosur. “

Both of the new orders include an 11-year locomotive maintenance agreement. Ferromex took delivery of 82 new SD70ACe locomotives in 2011 under two separate orders and 15 locomotives in 2006. Ferrosur’s last new locomotives were 14 General Electric ES44AC units purchased in 2011.
