MEXIA, Texas — About a dozen cars of grain derailed on a Union Pacific train Wednesday evening near Mexia, KCEN-TV reports.
KXXV-TV places the incident in Shiloh, Texas, about 5 miles southeast of Mexia, and says it occurred about 6:45 p.m., after heavy rains and flooding in the area led to a washout, according to the Shiloh Volunteer Fire Department. (There are at least two Shilohs in Texas; this one is in Limestone County; the incident occurred near the intersection of Limestone County roads 456 and 460.) The railroad told KCEN the cause is under investigation.
No injuries were reported. Cleanup was continuing on Thursday.
Shiloh is about 90 miles south of Dallas on UP’s Ennis Subdivision. It was one of two UP derailments in Texas on Wednesday; the other involved about 20 cars of an intermodal train near the West Texas community of Pyote [see “Union Pacific train derails …,” News Wire, May 1, 2024].
Hmm… Sounds like he was “Broke down south of Dallas”. Let’s see if there are any Jr. Brown fans out there
Nowing There was Flash Flooding in the Area You Should have Sent a Track Inspector to See if The Line was Passing Inspection
At least grain is no hazardous, unless one counts the bears that get drunk, and perhaps more aggressive, after eating fermented grain!
