BRYSON CITY, N.C. – An excursion train on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad derailed on Wednesday morning, reports WLOS-TV. The train derailed four of five cars approximately five miles west of Bryson City. There were 190 people on board and no injuries reported. A second train was sent out to pick up the passengers.

American Heritage Railways Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Jeffery Jackson told Trains News Wire trains are currently operating between Bryson City and Dillsboro only. The full route through the Nantahala River Gorge is expected to reopen by Saturday. The preliminary cause for the derailment is believed to be a rail that rolled over in a curve.
