INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Rail Road has named Joseph Gioe as its new president and CEO, replacing Dewayne Swindall, who left the company in May after three years.
Gioe will begin the new position on Aug. 12.
Gioe most recently was vice president of transportation at Norfolk Southern. Prior to joining NS in 2022, he spent 18 years with BNSF Railway, climbing from locomotive engineer to assistant vice president of network innovation.
Gioe “will bring a strong focus on safety, service, efficiency and employee development,” the railroad said in a press release. “He has consistently demonstrated his ability to lead his teams to higher levels of performance through team building and communication.”
Well now we know why – bigger and better (?) position.
INDR had some executive retirements in 2023, people who had been there since the Hoback start up days. I checked the local press and it just says Mr. Swindall left for “undisclosed reasons”.
