Iowa provides $5.1 million in loans, grants for rail projects

Six infrastructure and development projects receive funding

DECORAH, Iowa — The Iowa Transportation Commission has approved loans and grants totaling $5.1 million for six rail infrastructure and development projects under the state’s Railroad Revolving Loan and Grant program. The agency says the projects will support creation and retention of 55 jobs within the three years of project completion.

Receiving funding as Targeted Job Creation projects are:
— A rail spur for A-Line EDS, a Waterloo, Iowa, firm that handles the decommissioning of transformers and associated electrical equipment. That project received a loan of $1.249 million and a grant of $60,000.

— A rail extension in Appanoose County that will add 6 additional miles of track to the Appanoose County Community Railroad. That received a $600,000 grant.

Receiving funding for Rail Network Improvement projects are:

— A Burlington Junction Railway yard and transload facility in Des Moines County, which received a $257,349 loan;

— A Heartland Co-op rail-loading elevator project in Wayne County, receiving a $1.84 million loan;

— Improvements to the Dexter rail yard of Reid Line, Inc., receiving a $957,000 loan.

And receiving funding for Rail Port Planning and Development is the Webster City Rail Port in Hamilton County, recipient of a $100,00 grant.
