Kansas City Southern de Mexico logoCALTZONTZIN, Mexico — The latest blockade of Kansas City Southern de Mexico tracks by a Mexican teachers’ union has ended after 91 days, Mexico Daily News reports.

National Guard troops cleared the tracks in the state of Michoacán on Sunday afternoon, and KCSM trains were expected to begin running the same day. An industry association estimated that companies were losing about $2.4 million per day while the blockade prevented access to the port of Lázaro Cárdenas.

The teachers have blocked the tracks to seek what they say is back pay owed to 28,000 union members. The move to clear the tracks came after the state’s governor said about $71 million was paid in four installments, but a leader of the teachers’ group said that not all back pay had been received and that union members would meet Wednesday to consider further strike action.
