NEW YORK — Long Island Rail Road operations continue to see some delays and cancellations during the morning rush hour today (Aug. 4) following Thursday’s derailment of a train at Hall Interlocking near the Jaimaica station in Queens.

Thirteen people were injured, two seriously, when eastbound train No. 722 derailed at 54 mph about 11:15 a.m. [see “LIRR train derails …,” Trains News Wire, Aug. 3, 2023].

Eastbound trains continue to skip the stations at Hollis and Queens Village, as well as the LIRR employee-only stop at Hillside, because of the derailment. Several morning trains have also been cancelled.

As of 8 a.m. EDT, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority had rerailed six of the eight cars involved, WPIX-TV reports. The Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches are experiencing delays of 10 to 15 minutes, while the Oyster Bay and Hempstead branches have also seen delays.
