General Chairman Daniel N. Tavares III said in a letter to members that the agreement includes a 30% wage increase over the life of the contract, which compounds to 34.2%; increases in the apprenticeship wages; addition of Martin Luther King Day as a holiday; 10 weeks of paid parental leave, and other improvements. More details are available here.

“This is an historic contract,” Tavares said. “We have made changes that will improve the lives of our membership, given them more time with their families.”

The machinists are part of an eight-union coalition that reached agreement with Amtrak in March [see “Shop unions coalition announces agreement …,” Trains News Wire, March 25, 2023].
