BMWEDlogoNOVI, Mich. — Members of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, or BMWED, have ratified a new contract with Norfolk Southern while members at CSX have rejected a tentative agreement, the union has announced.

Both votes were held Oct. 14.

The five-year agreement with NS includes wage increases compounded to 18.77% over the life of the contract, a reduction in the time required to accrue vacation, and enhanced health and welfare benefits, the union said. It was ratified by a 710-480 vote, or 59.66% approving.

At CSX, the tentative agreement was voted down by a 1,330-616 vote, meaning 68.35% were against. Union officials will now resume bargaining with the railroad.
