NEWINGTON, Conn. — Trains will be replaced by buses on Metro-North’s Danbury Branch Aug. 23-25 to accommodate a switch replacement project, the Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced.
Buses will replace trains between Danbury and South Norwalk. They will operate earlier than the scheduled trains they replace, and will serve all stations between those two stops. A full schedule is available here. The bus substitution will begin at 4:30 a.m. on Friday; regular train service will resume on Monday with the 5:26 a.m. train from Danbury and the 7:32 a.m. train from South Norwalk.
“Improving reliability and safety on the railroad is a top priority,” Connecticut DOT Bureau Chief of Public Transportation Benjamin Limmer said in a press release. “We know this may be an inconvenience for customers and appreciate their understanding while this important project moves forward.”
Must be a very complicated switch.
Near me earlier in the year NS replaces a siding switch near me. Everything was prestaged. After The Crescent passed, track was taken out of service, Line cut. Switch removed. New switch installed. Welding completed. Electrical connections made and tested. Track put back in service. All in less than 6 hours.
