LOS ANGELES — Metrolink has awarded Balfour Beatty a $60 million contract for communication and signal systems, continuing a 14-year relationship between the Southern California commuter rail operator and contracting and construction firm.
The contract includes renovation and modernization of wayside signals and grade-crossing warning systems. It also includes installation, modification, and testing of wayside electrical power services and wayside hazard detectors, monitoring devices, and positive train control systems.
“Balfour Beatty is honored to continue its long-standing partnership with Metrolink in maintaining a safe and reliable passenger rail system that connects its customers across all six counties,” Mark Konchar, Balfour Beatty US Civils president and managing director of rail operations, said in a press release. “Our team of rail experts and industry partners are committed to implementing an enhanced service delivery program that is built upon safety, reliability, customer service, leading-edge technology and seamless connectivity in Southern California.”
Services covered under the contract are expected to begin in early July, with completion in June 2028.
