BOSTON — No one was injured but commuter rail and Amtrak operations were disrupted after a low-speed derailment of a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority commuter train arriving at Boston’s South Station today (Saturday, Feb. 8).
The derailment involved train No. 1806, an 11:45 a.m. departure from Providence, R.I., that was due at South Station at 1 p.m. The MBTA cancelled at least six trains as a result, according to the Boston Globe, while Amtrak cancelled six trains between Boston and Providence.
An Amtrak post on X.com at 4:26 p.m. ET said its service between Boston and Providence had been fully restored but residual delays were expected. The MTBA announced its trains were operating with “minimal delays” as of 7:48 p.m. ET.
