NEW YORK — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will offer tours of both the architecture and artwork of Grand Central Madison, the Long Island Rail Road terminal that opened earlier this year, sa part of the Open House New York Weekend, set for Oct. 20-22.
The annual event opens noteworthy locations across New York’s five boroughs for a mix of in-person experiences, self-guided exploration, and online content. The artwork tours of the station will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, and Sunday, Oct. 22, with tours led by MTA Arts & Design Manager Bridge Donlon (Saturday at 11 a.m.); Deputy Director Yaling Chen (Saturday at 1 p.m.) and Director Sandra Bloodworth (Sunday) at 1 p.m. The architecture tour will be Sunday, Oct. 22, and will be conducted by Judy Kunoff, East Side Access program executive.
Entry is free, but requires tickets, which will be distributed by lottery. Lottery entries must be submitted by Thursday, Oct. 12, at 9 a.m. EDT; winners will be selected in drawings held Thursday through Monday, Oct. 16. Lottery entries for the art tours are here; lottery entry for the architecture tour is here. More information is available at the Open House New York website.
Are the homeless people who seem to be permanent fixtures in Grand Central considered art or architecture?
