New Caltrain schedule to exceed pre-pandemic service levels

Caltrain logoSAN CARLOS, Calif. — Bay Area commuter rail operator Caltrain will expand service on Aug. 30 while cutting fares by 50% in September. The new schedules, with 104 trains on weekdays, exceed pre-pandemic levels.

The new schedule will see four trains per hour during peak hours (6-9 a.m and 4-7 p.m.) with service every half-hour until 11 p.m. Service to Gilroy, Calif., will see a third train restored, along with weekend service that will be identical on Saturdays and Sundays —meaning an increase of

Caltrain says in a press release that the new schedules emphasize better connections with BART at the Millbrae Transit Center, with most weekday connections between 8 and 15 minutes. Connections after 8:30 p.m. are less optimal, reflecting ongoing construction and maintenance projects on both systems.
