MOULDRIGE, Kan. — Two farm cooperatives have announced plans to build a grain shuttle loader near Sterling, Kan., to be served by Watco’s Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad.
It will be the third high-speed shuttle loading facility owned by CHS Inc. and Mid Kansas Cooperative (MKC). Operations are expected to begin by late 2023, although the companies say the construction timeline is contingent on negotiations with state and local officials. The facility will have on-site storage of approximately 5.2 million bushels.
“We are excited to once again make a strategic local investment with our cooperative partners at CHS,” MKC CEO Brad Stedman said in a press release. “Investments such as this rail terminal expand the cooperative system’s ability to deliver our farmer’s grain to various parts of the world, returning greater value to local farmers and local communities.”
Great idea! If one location can’t fill a unit train and 2 can, it’s a good idea.
