CARY, N.C. — A new unit of rail information technology firm Railinc offers railcar owners and users a new tool for predictive maintenance of wheelsets, determining their optimal time for replacement.
The new TransmetriQ unit has launched Wheelset Intelligence, which predicts wheelset failures. The company says it will allow maximum mileage between repairs, minimize operational disruptions, and reduce maintenance spending.
“Replacing railcar wheelsets accounts for about half of all railcar maintenance spending,” Ward Proctor, TransmetriQ’s director, business solutions, said in a press release. “Without visibility into wheelset health, equipment owners and users have little to no information to make informed decisions regarding maintenance scheduling. Wheelset Intelligence helps to reduce maintenance costs by ensuring repairs are done at the optimal time and location for the equipment owner, which also increases railcar availability.”
