ALBANY, N.Y. — New York State is offering $121.6 million in funding for rail and port projects within the state under its Passenger and Freight Rail Assistance Program, with applications for funding accepted through Oct. 6.

Eligible projects include track and bridge rehabilitation; yard, terminal and siding construction; grade crossing resurfacing; wayside detectors; and other projects that enhance the safe movement of goods, aid economic competitiveness, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“Sustained commerce is the lifeblood for our regional and state economy, and investing in our trade routes ensures that New York State can remain competitive on a national and global scale,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a press release. “I urge anyone with qualifying projects to apply for this funding because modernizing our freight rail and port infrastructure is crucial — not just for the many businesses who depend on safe, reliable commerce routes, but for the quality of life of New Yorkers.”

  1. Another living proof that the Big Apple has always been an important railroad and maritime city.
