Logo of Metropolitan Transportation AuthorityNEW YORK — A New York City Transit subway operator has been removed from his position after allegedly allowing a female friend to operate a D Train subway for several stops in Brooklyn — which came to the attention of a transit supervisor after the woman posted video on social media.

The New York Post reports video of the woman operating the train was posted online and shared by Metropolitan Transportation Authority workers. When the supervisor saw the video, he reported it to New York police.

The newspaper reported police have identified the operator as Terrell Harris, in his fifth year with the MTA. New York City Transit Interim President Craig Cipriano said in a statement that the video “is beyond egregious showing a train operator who betrayed the trust of New Yorkers while creating a dangerous condition … I want to assure customers that the operator involved has been removed from service and will no longer be allowed to control a train.”

The MTA has launched an investigation and police are looking into the incident.

  1. Ah what the hell, he’ll get a slap on the wrist, light suspension with pay and back behind the throttle again, doubt he’ll be actually fired.

  2. The reporting seems to emphasize it was a woman, but the problem was that an unqualified person was doing it. It could have been a kid brother or boyfriend and it would have been just as bad. The person involved was certainly an airhead for posting it on social media.

  3. Ms. Vinson: If you are correct, Mr. Harris would most assuredly deserve it. But do not underestimate Benjamin Crump.

  4. This is unprofessional behaviour at its height. Interim President Craig Cipriano’s remark that “the operator has been removed from service” is a gentler way of saying he was terminated.

  5. Should make the “Stupid Criminals” feature this week on my local radio station. Maybe she could now advertise to video bank robberies and assaults. I see a book deal in the offing.

  6. Here cometh the most obvious post of the day: – probably this has happened before but it wasn’t posted on social media.
