An Amtrak special equipment move through Wilmington, Del., at 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday morning with “Salute to Veterans” ACS-46 No. 642 on the point and two P42 diesels in tow carrying two of Amtrak’s six 50th-anniversary paint schemes — “Midnight Blue” locomotive No. 100, and No. 46, which carries the current paint scheme with large 50th anniversary decals. The diesels are reportedly en route to Philadelphia, where President Joe Biden will take part in an Amtrak 50th anniversary event on Friday.
— Updated at 9:55 a.m. to correct that this was a special equipment move; updated at 2:15 p.m. to correct paint scheme on No. 46.
I hope I get to see them sometime, planning a few trips on Amtrak this year, one with my 2 railfan friends to PA where we will ride 3 trains and use rental car in between. I have my 50th t-shirt ready to wear, ordered it from their store. I have a 40th one too that I bought at their exhibit car, but have not heard anything about an exhibit car traveling around this time. Amtrak is too busy restoring daily service and getting the furloughed workers back, which I am very happy about.
Surely that’s an ACS-64 and the last two digits got transposed? It’s shown that way twice, but I don’t think this is some AMTK rebuild I don’t know about, heh.
Wish I felt comfortable to take the train to Philadelphia and be in the area for the birthday party– though I know it is just a news conference– being just a month younger than Amtrak
Also please correct the error stating that 46 is in “Phase One” livery. 🙂
