MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — An eastbound South Shore Line test train approaches the 11th Street station in Michigan City on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Rail service west from Michigan City has been replaced by buses for more than a year — and the 11th Street station has been closed since May 2021 — as part of the project to double-track the South Shore main line between Michigan City and Gary, Ind., but trains are set to begin running on a portion of that route again. South Shore officials said recently rail service between Michigan City and the Dune Park station in Porter, Ind., would resume the week of Oct. 16. [see “South Shore to resume …,” Trains News Wire, Oct. 4, 2023]. Bus substitution will continue between Dune Park and Gary.
