An 11-car Union Pacific passenger train pauses at the east portal of Colorado’s Moffat Tunnel on Tuesday while passengers inspect the tunnel’s fan house and control room. The train arrived at Winter Park, Colo., on Monday morning, and departed about 2 p.m. today, stopping at the tunnel before continuing to Denver, where it is laying over this evening. A Union Pacific spokesman says the train is on an inspection tour that will also include a stop in Cheyenne, Wyo., before returning to Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Thursday.

  1. In a 2020 crossing inventory report for Kings Crossing Rd in Winter Park there were 4 daytime trains and 3 nighttime trains. 2 of those would have been Amtrak

  2. Is there much UP traffic on the Rio Grande these days? Perhaps the route is being shopped around? Pan Am ran its attractive pocket OCS train several times over its mainline in the 2nd half of 2020 to line up a buyer (ie, CSX).
