SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A South Shore Line special train — the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District’s two GP38-2 rebuilds and one car, the former Milwaukee Road business car Montana — awaits departure from the South Shore station at South Bend International Airport on Thursday, Sept. 22. The train was scheduled for a 4:15 p.m. EDT departure for Chicago. Photographer Bruce Stahl says those slated to be on board reportedly included Surface Transportation Board Chairman Martin Oberman, and perhaps other STB members.

One-car train makes trip from South Bend to Chicago
Its a publicly funded common carrier?
I believe only the passenger operation receives public funding.
This explains why the Montana was missing from the return trip of the recent AAPRCO special on the South Shore. Where did the special end up in Chicago? I wonder why the STB is so interested in the South Shore?
