REDLANDS, Calif. — The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority and Metrolink launched their Arrow commuter rail service on Monday, a 9-mile route between Redlands and San Bernardino served by Stadler FLIRT diesel multiple-unit trainsets.
The route adds four stations to a line connecting to the San Bernardino-Downtown station, where passengers can connect to Metrolink trains to Los Angeles. Up to 42 weekday trains will operate between 5:30 a.m. and 9 p.m.; one Metrolink round trip daily is being extended directly to the Redlands-Downtown station.
“The effort of SBCTA and Metrolink to complete a project of this magnitude is tremendous,” Larry McCallon, Metrolink board vice-chair and SBCTA board member, said in a press release. “By extending passenger rail service to Redlands with new, modern and eco-friendly trains, the agencies are fulfilling commitments to not only provide Southern California residents with greater regional rail connectivity, but also meet California’s aggressive climate-improvement goals.”
