UNION CITY, Ind. — The former CSX interlocking tower in Union City was successfully moved Tuesday from its long-time location to a city park one block away. The tower, closed since 1968, will be turned into public restrooms and a visitor’s center at Union City’s Artisan Crossing, a gathering space for community and artistic events. [see “Digest: Union City, Ind., launches effort …,” Trains News Wire, Feb. 9, 2021]. The building had faced demolition before a fundraising effort, launched in February, surpassed its $50,000 goal ahead of a March 25 deadline, setting the stage for Tuesday’s 525-foot move. Plans are to restore the structure’s top floor to show how it looked while it was still in use.

Terre Haute, Indiana has two preserved interlocking towers at the Wabash Valley Railroaders Museum located at the crossing of CSX’s north-south main line to Chicago and east-west main to St. Louis. Haley Tower guarded the Chicago & Eastern Illinois-New York Central crossing. It was moved just a few feet off railroad property. Preston Tower was moved much farther from the Milwaukee Road-C&EI crossing on Terre Haute’s far south side.
That would be Spring Hill tower. Not sure where Preston tower is, if it’s even still around.
