Amtrak logoKINGSTON, R.I. — No injuries were reported after an Amtrak Northeast Regional train struck track equipment near Kingston on Friday night, according to news reports.

WJAR-TV reports Washington-Boston train No. 178, carrying about 200 passengers, struck the equipment about 11:20 p.m. The station’s website has a photograph of an Amfleet coach immediately behind ACS64 locomotive No. 645 with damage to its front end and a gash extending several feet across a door and down the car’s side.

Amtrak’s NEC Alerts Twitter feed indicated the train was stopped “due to equipment issues” as of 11:50 p.m. Friday night but reported the train back on the move by 1:43 a.m., operating approximately 2 hours, 20 minutes late. Amtrak’s website indicates the train arrived in Boston at 3:11 a.m., 2 hours, 56 minutes late.
