DORCHESTER, S.C. — Norfolk Southern will permanently protect 1,105 acres of coastal wetlands in South Carolina through a conservation easement, the company announced Tuesday.

The protected land is home to the Coldwater Branch Stream and Westland Mitigation Bank at Brosnan Forest, the company’s 14,400-acre time and wildlife preserve 35 miles northwest of Charleston at Dorchester. It is the third easement donated by NS to the Lowcountry Land Trust, which currently protects over 150,000 acres of ecologically significant land in South Carolina.

“Restoration projects like Coldwater Branch reflect Norfolk Southern’s long-term vision of how conservation and business can work together to benefit local communities, our stakeholders, and the environment – bringing together the three pillars of sustainability,” Josh Raglin, NS chief sustainability officer, said in a press release. “… Lowcountry Land Trust continues to be a critical, long-term partner in helping us protect this land for future generations.”

  1. Did you mean to say “Norfolk Southern announced it will permanently protect 1,105 acres of ecologically significant land in South Carolina’s coastal plain through a conservation easement” ?
    Not 1,1105 or 1,1106?
