ATLANTA — Norfolk Southern has launched a new grant program to aid communities hit by last week’s severe storms in the Midwest and South.
The Community Disaster Relief Grant Program will provide up to $250,000 to nonprofit organizations assisting residents affected by the storm in the railroad’s operating area, the company has announced.
The railroad is encouraging nonprofits to apply by submitting information on their storm response. Organizations can apply by creating an account here.
The railroad also offers an Employee Hardship Program that provide grants to workers for short-term evacuations or long-term damage repair.
The railroad is continuing to address operating recovery from storm damage, it said in an update earlier this week [see “Storms impact CSX, Norfolk Southern service,” Trains News Wire, April 6, 2025].
