Norfolk, Va. – Norfolk Southern has released the latest in a series of popular television commercials aimed at business decision makers and the general public. The new 30-second commercial, entitled “Just Another Day,” highlights how NS moves a “nearly inconceivable” amount of freight every day, but to their folks it’s “just another day.” The railroad says that it’s a message about “getting it done” every day, and positions NS as part of the fabric of American life.

The new commercial will air through the mid-term elections on CNN and Fox News. The RP3 Agency, under director Ray Dillman, an Emmy winner who has created commercials for AllState, the U.S. Army, American Airlines, PGA, Coca-Cola, Bank of America, Home Depot, Zales Jewelers, and others, produced the spot in Atlanta’s Inman Yard.

  1. "Keeping the lights on", should be up front & center, maybe somebody in the Obama administration will take notice.

  2. We rarely know exactly what those double stake trains are carrying. The Tropicana Juice Trains, yes, coal trains, yes, but the tank cars are a little more veiled in mystery (Oil, chemicals, ethanol?). To the non rail fan, these long trains move stealthily through cities carrying an enormous variety of 'stuff', for the most part cloaked in mystery. Hopefully, NS will demonstrate that they are on friendly errands on the public's behalf.

  3. Would love to see an ad, which features all the Heritage Units in action, sort of like "We Are Norfolk Southern" theme.

  4. Nice, for once, to see a freight railroad television commercial that puts the spotlight on railroad employees with actual speaking roles!

  5. The Norfolk Southern ad that was produced at NS's two yards in Atlanta – a cinematic masterpiece for those who haven't seen it – has been nominated for a CLIO – when was the last time – or better yet, the first time – that any railroad ad has ever been nominated for a CLIO – awards in October…plays constantly here in the DC area.

  6. 30 seconds is a very short time in which to effectively portray what an impact NS (and other railroads) has on the everyday lives of all people. Personally, I like the ad, but I doubt it will have the average "Joe" thinking much about the importance of railroads in this country and why we should continue to support them…and that's a shame…

  7. Commercials like this will help the average public person understand the benefits of rail. Amazing I run into people all the time who either think Railroads aren't used at all or are a dying industry. I scratch my head and wonder how these people think this even though they are stopped by trains all the time while driving.
