PARIS, Mo. — A westbound Norfolk Southern manifest freight train derailed after colliding with a semi-trailer truck at a grade crossing on Highway 15 near Paris, Mo., on Thursday, Nov. 17th. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, an occupant in the truck and the locomotive engineer suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
The grade crossing is protected by warning lights and crossbars. The Mexico Ledger reported the truck was hauling an oversized load when it entered the crossing. Both NS locomotives and at least six cars derailed.
Mr Cooney, very few details were described. Oversize load could have been caught on the crossing.
The better part was no one was seriously injured. The driver is subject to a license suspension for six months. This is an administrative suspension issued by the FMCSA, not a court.
Dumb trucker.
There is a bridge over Salt Creek just east of the crossing with a 1890’s era bridge over it. Hopefully none of the derailed cars took it down with it.
A picture that I saw showed it still standing however the nearby intermediate signal got wiped out.
