Saturday is your chance to explore Norfolk Southern’s Natural Tunnel in Duffield, Va.

Norfolk Southern and the Virginia State Parks are hosting Railroad Day July 20 at Natural Tunnel State Park. The event will touch upon local history and promote railroad safety. The park’s chairlift, which provides access to the tunnel area from above, will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can explore the tunnel beginning at 10 a.m.

Due to visitor safety issues, the tunnel has been closed to foot traffic for several years.

The park is about 15 miles northwest of Kingsport, Tenn. Today, the former Southern Railway route hosts NS traffic between Bluefield, W.Va., and Knoxville, Tenn.
