DUFFIELD, Va. – Norfolk Southern is partnering with Virginia’s Natural Tunnel State Park to offer “Railroad Day” on July 13. For this event only, guests are allowed to explore the tunnel by foot. Other activities include guided tours of the tunnel, a free railroad photography workshop hosted by NS company photographer Casey Thomason, and an opportunity to meet author Tony Scales who has written a book about Natural Tunnel. Norfolk Southern will also provide heritage-painted and Operation Lifesaver locomotives to display.

The park is about 15 miles northwest of Kingsport, Tenn. Today, the former Southern Railway route hosts NS traffic between Bluefield, W.Va., and Knoxville, Tenn., as well as CSX trains operating on trackage rights.
