NTSB names McMurry, Czech to new positions

National Transportation Safety Board logoWASHINGTON — The National Transportation Safety Board has named William Thomas (Tom) McMurry Jr. as its general counsel and Barbara A. Czech as director of the Office of Research and Engineering, the board announced Monday.

McMurry was previously deputy general counsel for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and chief counsel and deputy chief counsel for NASA’s Langley Research Center. He also served as colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate Genera’s Corps. His appointment was effective Monday.

Czech’s appointment is effective today (Aug. 1). She has been deputy director of the Office of Research and Engineeering since 2016, and succeeds Jim Ritter, who is retiring after 35 years at the NTSB. Czech joined the NTSB in 1996 as a survival factors investigator in the Office of Highway Safety and was been an associate managing director in the Office of Railroad, Pipeline, and Hazardous Materials Investigations.

The board also named Kristi Dunks as deputy director for regional operations in the Office of Aviation Safety.
