JEWETT, Ohio — The National Transportation Safety Board will conduct an investigation after a railroad worker was killed Monday in Jewett, the agency announced Monday.
WOIO-TV reports the worker was an employee for the Columbus & Ohio River Rail Road, a Genesee & Wyoming property, and quoted a statement from the parent company said its “thoughts are with [its] colleague’s loved ones and teammates at this difficult time.”
No other information is currently available.
The 277-mile Columbus & Ohio River was acquired by G&W in 2008. Its main line is a former Conrail route between Columbus and Mingo Junction, Ohio. Jewett, on a branch line serving Cadiz, Ohio, is approximately 25 miles northwest of Wheeling, W.Va., and 55 miles southeast of Akron, Ohio.
Jewett is on the main line of the Wheeling & Lake Erie at the junction with the CUOH (former PRR). Cadiz is on a branch southeast of Jewett.
I believe Jewett is actually on the main line, not a branch line.
