SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. — Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner has released a new interim timetable for the duration of the current interruption of service through south Orange County, Calif.

The schedule, available here, includes the suspension of four trains. Ten offer bus-bridge connections between Irvine and Oceanside. Three start or end in Irvine, while six extend to San San Juan Capistrano and one originates in Los Angeles.

Service through the San Clemente area was halted last Thursday, April 27, because of a landslide near the tracks [see “Surfliner, Metrolink could face another extended stoppage …,” Trains News Wire, April 29, 2023]. That came just two weeks after full LA-San Diego service had been restored, after a six-month interruption, while a hillside was stabilized at another San Clemente location.

Metrolink commuter service through south Orange county to Oceanside remains suspended.

  1. Does this free up a train set on the LAX side? If so, what is the disposition of the cars? Lengthen other trains? Or just idle?
